The history of the Petchey Group of Companies

The successful Petchey Group of companies has evolved over the past five decades, mainly due to the far sightedness, entrepreneurial flair and positive thinking of its founder, Jack Petchey.

In a real 'rags to riches' story, Jack Petchey rose from office boy at 14 in the accounts department of a legal stationers in the City of London to motor trade and property tycoon.
The years following World War II saw the birth of the Petchey Group, with Jack Petchey rapidly escalating from owning and driving a mini cab, to controlling a fleet of hirs cars, then opening car showrooms, and subsequently diversifying to purchasing properties including the development of the immensely popular Clube Praia da Oura in the Algarve, Portugal.

With offices in Ilford, Essex, the group currently encompasses:

- Property investment & development
- Timeshare management
- The Jack Petchey Foundation, a charity to support youth in Jack - - Petchey's birthplace and home, East London & West Essex.

Clube Praia da Oura holds a special place in Jack Petchey's affections, not just because it earned him the reputation as the father of timeshare in Europe, as well as a substantial addition to his investments portfolio, but because it is a monument to the Petchey philosophy - a vision and concept which suffered many birth pangs due to the Revolution in Portugal in 1974, but which today stands as a holiday destination providing pleasure and a 'home from home' for many thousands of families.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was originally formed, to assist young people in East London & Essex.
The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme was launched especially for youth who say they need "half a chance" and was designed to help others to help themselves and then help others. It is a great motivator and rewards youth for determination to succeed rather than excellence.

The boundaries of the Foundation are now expanding to encompass North and North West London.

In January 2004 the Jack Petchey Foundation also began work in Portugal and operates in over 500 schools and clubs.
